Jon Dron is a principal lecturer at the University of Brighton, UK where he teaches and researches in the School of Computing, Mathematical & Information Sciences. Here, he leads a postgraduate course in e-learning design and a largely distance-taught undergraduate programme in Internet computing. He is also Head of Learning Environments within the school.
His teaching areas include learning technologies, web mastery, network management and communication technologies.
Jon’s doctorate was on self-organisation in network based learning environments and he continues to build and research systems in this area. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles on this and other aspects of e-learning, as well as many invited papers and presentations.
His first book, Control and Constraint in E-Learning: Choosing when to Choose, is due to be published by Idea Group in early 2007. The book is concerned with the subject of his talk at NETTIES. In it, he establishes a theoretical foundation for approaches to the design and use of learning technologies, with a particular focus on the affordances of social software.
Jon’s background is eclectic. His first degree was in philosophy.
Following this, he spent several years as a professional musical entertainer, during which time he developed an interest in computers.
Eventually, he got bored with the bohemian life of the musician and gained an MSc in Information Systems. Following some years as a technology manager, in 1997 he settled on a career in academia. Jon is a National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.

Federico Filira is a senior consultant in ICT.
Competence areas are: education technologies, network management and security, besides project management in the ICT fields.
He received the Electrical and Computer Science Engineering in 1992 and the PhD degree in Measurements Instrumentation in 1996.
He worked as researcher at Istat in the system and network management area for 5 years.
Since 2001 he has been concerned with distance learning, deploying the distributed teleteaching system for the Information Engineering Dept. of the Università di Padova Italy.
He is contract professor of "Operating System" course at the same University since 2003.

Currently, Dr. Ildar Galeev is involved in research in the field of Artificial Intelligence in Education. He is the Head of the Department of Information Technologies and Technical Aids of Learning in Kazan State Technological University. He is also an Associate Prof. on the Departments of Informatics and Apllied Mathematics at two Kazan Universities: Kazan State Technological University (KSTU) and Kazan State Technology University named after A.N. Tupolev (KSTU named after A.N. Tupolev).
Dr. Ildar Galeev received his Master Degree in Applied Mathematics from Kazan State Technical University in 1975 and his Ph.D. in Automated Control Systems (subarea - Intelligent Tutoring Systems) from Kazan State Technological University in 1994.
He was the leader of the laboratory in State Institution of Research and Design of Computing Machinery for the National Economy (SIRDCMNE). At the same time he participated in a number of research projects, as well as in Information Management Systems (IMS) development and deployment for various large plants in the USSR. Dr. Ildar Galeev worked on the problem of "Modeling of Learning", as the leader and the main performer. This project was developed in the framework of the international collaborative program "Study of principles of modern problem-oriented tutoring systems development and creation of authoring tools for support of learning processes for different types of users". Then he worked on the development of authoring tools for design of a learning control subsystem for expert tutoring systems. This project was financed by grants from SPU "Centerprogramsystem" (Tver) and Institute for Informatics Problems (IPI) of Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).
He is the author of number of courses on information technologies. During the years Dr. Galeev teaches the course "Technology of designing the computer systems" in the Centre of Training and Qualification Raising of Teachers of Volga region and Ural Institute as well as many other courses in several Kazan Universities.
Dr.Ildar Galeev is a scientific adviser of post-graduate students (2000 – 2002, 2004 years). His first post-graduate students (Vadim Chepegin, Sergey Sosnovsky) continue research on information technologies in the USA and the Netherlands. About 20 qualification papers are written under the direction of Dr. Ildar Galeev.
Dr. Ildar Galeev is a member of program and organizational committees of a number of national and international conferences on e-learning, in particular: AI in Education (Russia, 1996), ICALT'2001 (USA, 2001), ICALT'2002 (Russia, 2002), ICALT'2003 (Greece, 2003), ICALT'2004 (Finland, 2004) where he made speeches on e-learning. For organization of the International conference ICALT'2002 he was awarded a certificate of appreciation of IEEE Computer Society.
Dr. Ildar Galeev is a member of Tatarstan section of Russian Association for Artificial Itelligence (RAAI, http://www.raai.org/). He is also a coordinator from Russia in Central European section of Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE, http://www.aace.org/) and a member of IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology (http://lttf.ieee.org/contacts.htm).

Katarzyna Grzybowska is a Lecturer at the Institute of Management Engineering, Production Engineering and Management of Poznan University of Technology, Poland, where she teaches subjects related to operations and logistics management. Her major areas of academic interest are change management and change in a new economy. Her doctoral dissertation from the Institute of Organization and Management in Industry (ORGMASZ), Warsaw, Poland, deals with change management and model change. She has published several publications and has presented research papers at national and international conferences.

Kinshuk is Professor and Director of School of Computing and Information Systems at Athabasca University, Canada.  He obtained his PhD from De Montfort University, United Kingdom in 1996. Before moving to Canada, Kinshuk worked at German National Research Centre for Information Technology as Postgraduate Fellow, and at Massey University, New Zealand as Associate Professor of Information Systems and Director of Advanced Learning Technology Research Centre. He also holds Senior E-Learning Consultant position with Online Learning Systems Ltd., New Zealand, and Docent position with University of Joensuu, Finland. His research aims to advance research on the innovative paradigms, architectures and implementations of learning systems for individualised and adaptive learning in increasingly global environment. To bridge the gap among different types of learners, his research is targeted to provide support for mobile and life-long learners, just-in-time and on-demand learning, and context adaptation. He has been involved in large-scale research projects for exploration based adaptive educational environments and has published over 185 research papers in international refereed journals, conferences and book chapters. He is Chair of IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology and International Forum of Educational Technology & Society. He is also editor of the SSCI indexed Journal of Educational Technology & Society (ISSN 1436-4522). He is editorial board member of more than a dozen journals and programme committee member of several conferences in educational technology area every year.

Ms. Kaisa Korpela graduated in mathematics from Oulu University, Finland in 2001.  has worked at Leeds Metropolitan University for
approximately 20 years. Prior to joining Leeds Met
Graham was an information systems specialist in
industry working as a business systems consultant. This
 is a role still undertaken on behalf of Leeds Met.
During his time at Leeds Met he has taught information
systems theory, information systems strategy and
information systems methods and techniques and
latterly has moved into the area of organisational
learning and knowledge management.
Graham still continues to teach in these areas and
maintains contact with industry and commerce through consultancy but the main thrust of his role is now
research.  He is Head of the Centre for Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM), a research centre
within the university which provides focus for his
faculty’s research activities. His current research intere
sts are in the area of knowledge management and
organisational learning, eGovernment, and Business
Process Re-engineering.
Graham is on the committee of the European Association of Telematics Applications (EATA), a European wide research group responsible for supporting research and running the NETTIES series of conferences and is a member of the permanent committee of the NETTIES (Networking Entities) annual conference.

Adrian Popescu studied telecommunications and computer science at the Politehnica Univeristy of Timisoara and at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Télécommunications de Bretagne. He graduated in 2005 with a master thesis titled “Introduction of global constraints in the unit selection process in speech synthesis” realized at France Télécom R&D. He started a Ph.D. at the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique LIST in October 2005. His research focuses on the joint use of linguistic resources and image processing techniques in image retrieval.

Marco Sajeva was born in Palermo in 1969. He is an engineer specialized in web development and he is the founder and the head of VISIONI: an office of professionals in ICT that is consultant for the main Italian Universities and Research Centres. Since 2000 he is a lecturer of the University of Palermo for the courses of “Advanced Languages for the Web” and for the Master course of Journalism and ICT.
He is the designer and developer of the webTV project of the University of Palermo and author of more of 140 articles and two books and he is active in research about e-learning methodologies; since 2000 he is a member of IEEE, of AICA and of the SIAARTI ICT task force.
Since the 4th of Jannuary 2006 he has been hired from his wife Ernesta to become the daddy of Antonello, and that’s the only reason to take him away from his computers happily.

Ken Stevens is a Professor of Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he was appointed to a chair in e-learning, funded by Industry Canada. His previous appointments were at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, and at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. In Australia, New Zealand and Canada he has specialized in the provision of education in rural communities and the application of information technologies for teaching and learning in and between schools in sparsely-populated areas. For the past ten years, Dr. Carmen Taran has been working for AT&T, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. AT&T employs over 200,000 workers, located in USA and 60 countries around the world. The AT&T Training Department employs over 150 course designers, training managers, programmers, and performance consultants.
The presenter's responsibilities within AT&T 's Training Department include:
- Production of online courseware using a variety of authoring tools (Authorware, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, etc,) and programming languages (DHTML, XML, JavaScript, and ColdFusion). AT&T publishes at least 300 eLearning courses annually for a population of over 200,000 employees.
- Consulting and troubleshooting services provided to other designers enterprise-wide, regarding the production of effective online courseware.
- Development of templates, models, and standards for the production of e-learning courses company-wide.
- Research, development, and implementation of new processes, tools, and technology related to effective e-learning production.
The presenter holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication Design, a Masters' degree in Multimedia Instruction, and a Doctorate degree in Instructional Technology and Distance Education.

Emanuel Tundrea received his college education at "Politehnica"
University of Timisoara in Romania, where he studied software engineering. Now he continues the doctoral studies under supervision of prof. Ioan Jurca from the same university and Philippe Lahire which is Professor at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. He works also as a lecturer at
"Emanuel" University of Oradea. Through his collaboration with Philippe Lahire he spend several monts at the I3S laboratory in Sophia-Antipolis to work with researchers of the Object Software
Ccomponent Group (OCL). He published in particular in the LMO'2006 Conference.
His main research is on the field of software engineering. His approach, called SmartModels, aims to address in a practical way the Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) and Domain-Driven Development (DDD) principles and proposes a way of developing domain-specific software based on models as a more flexible option to the MOF plus UML approaches in order to protect the more and more evolving applications against technological obsolescence.

Radu Vasiu received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Engineering from the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, Romania in 1982 and 1997, respectively. He is currently a professor at the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering of the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara. He is now the Scientific Secretary of the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, in charge with Research and International Relations, and vice-director of the Centre for Distance Education of the university.
His research interests include image and video compression techniques, multimedia communications, multimedia application development e-learning and digital equipment testing.
Since 1993 he was involved in many international projects (Tempus, Phare, Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, etc), especially in the field of multimedia and e-learning, both as coordinator or as contractor.
He acted as invited professor in different universities from UK, Finland, France, Greece and Netherlands.
He was involved in 30 research or international cooperation projects.
He is currently a member of IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Communications Society, European Association for Telematics Applications (EATA), European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN), International Association of Science and Technology Engineers for Development (IASTED), European Portal for Advanced Collaboration in E-learning (EuroPACE) and of the Commission for European Integration of the Romanian Academy, Timisoara branch.
